As expected, Asus unveiled the ZenFone 2 at the CES 2015 alongside Zenfone Zoom. The latter is a smartphone that features a whopping 3x optical zoom.
The Taiwan based vendor has announced that the new ZenFone 2 will be in the Q1 2015 in different color variants such as Ceramic White, Glacier Gray, Glamour Red, Osmium Black and Sheer Gold and that it will be priced starting from $199. The Asus ZenFone Zoom, on the other hand, is slated to debut on sale from the Q2 2015 in Glacier White and Meteorite Black color variants for $399.
The Asus ZenFone 2 is the first smartphone in the industry to arrive with a massive 4 GB of RAM. Powering the smartphone is a 64 bit Intel Atom Z3580 quad core processor clocked at 2.3 GHz. Notably, the smartphone will come in a two options – 2 GB of RAM and 4 GB of RAM respectively. It will also arrive in three configurations – 16 GB, 32 GB and 64 GB of storage capacities that can be expanded externally by another 64 GB using a micro SD card.
Like the other Asus smartphones, the ZenFone 2 is based on the new Asus ZenUI based on Android 5.0 Lollipop. It flaunts a 5.5 inch full HD IPS display with 1920×1080 pixels that will result in a pixel density of 403 pixels per inch. Furthermore, the screen is also protected with the Corning Gorilla Glass 3 coating.
The ZenFone 2 boasts of a 13 MP primart camera with f/2.0 aperture, auto focus and dual color Real Tone flash. Also, there is a 5 MP front facing camera with 85 degree wide-angle lens. The Zen UI comes with camera improvement aspects such as low light mode, backlight (HDR) mode, enhanced beautification mode, manual mode and zero shutter lag.
Other goodies onboard the device include 4G LTE (Cat. 4), 3G, GPRS/ EDGE, GPS, Bluetooth, Wi-Fi, USB OTG and NFC. A 3,000 mAh battery powers the smartphone and it has fast charging technology that can charge the phone up to 60 percent in 39 minutes.
The Asus ZenFone Zoom, on the other hand, is designed with the photographers as the prime targets as it features 3x optical zoom. It also runs on Asus ZenUI based on Android 5.0 Lollipop and has similar hardware specifications as the ZenFone 2.
The only difference is that the ZenFone Zoom boasts of a 13 MP main camera with f/2.7 to f/4.8 aperture, 10-element lenses with 3x optical zoom, OIS, laser auto-focus and dual color Real Tone flash. It is touted that the ZenFone Zoom is the world’s thinnest 3x optical smartphone offering up to 12x zoom-in effect. Furthermore, the device comes with 128 GB of inbuilt storage capacity.
