BlackBerry Passport with Square Display and Enterprise Features Launched Officially

On Wednesday, BlackBerry launched its highly anticipated device dubbed BlackBerry Passport and it is a business oriented smartphone. The handset with its wide portrait screen that is almost a square is aimed is claimed to ensure productivity that is better than the other smartphones in the market with narrow screen.

The BlackBerry Password comes fitted with a 4.5 inch IPS LCD square display with a resolution of 1440×1440 pixels that will translate to a pixel density of 453 pixels per inch. This screen is a 10 point multi-touch screen and it is layered with the Corning Gorilla Glass 3 scratch resistant coating on top. At the launch event, it was shown that this display will be suitable for all the enterprise related tasks as it showed a demo by opening the same document on different phones.

The Passport uses a 2.2 GHz quad-core Qualcomm Snapdragon 800 processor assisted by 3 GB of RAM and 32 GB of internal storage that can be expanded externally by another 64 GB via a micro SD card.

The imaging hardware of the square display phone includes a 13 MP auto focus primary camera with optical image stabilization, BSI sensor, 5 element f2.0 lens, FHD 1080p video recording and LED flash. There is a front-facing 2 MP fixed focus selfie snapper with image and video stabilization and support for HD 720p video shooting.

The connectivity features onboard the BlackBerry Passport are 4G LTE, Wi-Fi, Bluetooth 4.0, NFC, SlimPort and GPS+GLONASS. The BlackBerry OS 10.3 platfomr based smartphone uses a 3,450 mAh battery that should provide a good backup to the device.

The Passport comes with the BlackBerry Assistant that is the firm’s own personal assistant software. Also, the BlackBerry keyboard receives an update that equips it with touch enabled keys onscreen. The handset is pre-loaded with the Amazon app store for users to download all the Android applications. The BlackBerry App World will be focusing on all the enterprise applications needed by the users.

BlackBerry has priced the Passport at $599 in the U.S. and it is expected to ship soon and reach over 30 countries.
