After surfacing in rumors for couple of months, Taiwan based HTC finally announced a GoPro style action camera dubbed HTC RE. This camera is rugged and it is called a remarkable little camera. It is great to see the vendor focus its powers on a new product category other than smartphone manufacturing.
The HTC RE Camera is not similar to the GoPro action camera in terms of design as this one comes with a cylindrical design that resembles a small periscope. However, it is rugged and waterproof with IP57 rating. With a compact design, it appears to be pretty easy to carry around and mount the camera and it can easily capture snaps even while performing extreme actions.
The HTC RE camera uses a massive 16 MP CMOS sensor that is fitted with an ultra wide angle 146 mm lens and f/2.8 aperture respectively. Also, this camera allows in capturing FHD 1080p videos at 30 fps, HD 720p videos at 120 fps and slow motion videos as well. Moreover, it comes with the time lapse options also to enhance the user experience.
HTC has incorporated a 820 mAh battery in the HTC RE Camera that lets users to shoot for up to 1 hours and record FHD 1080p videos continuously for up to 40 minutes respectively without any concerns regarding battery drain. Moreover, there is 8 GB of internal storage capacity in the HTC RE Camera and this can be expanded externally by another 128 GB with the help of a micro SD card. Also, there is support for connectivity aspects such as Bluetooth 4.0, USB 2.0 and Wi-Fi as well. Interestingly, the camera supports HTC Zoe application that is a video editing tool.
The photos, videos and time lapse recordings can be streamed seamlessly over Wi-Fi as the application is compatible with use on both Android and iOS platforms by means of application. Users can also control the whole device remotely through the application and transform their smartphone into a remote viewfinder. The HTC RE camera is compatible with devices based on Android 4.3 Jelly Bean and above and iOS 7 and above.
The RE camera in teal, orange, navy blue, and white color options will be made available in US this holiday season and it will be priced at $199.
