Karbonn to Launch Second Generation Android One Smartphone in Q1 2015

On Wednesday, Spice Mobiles announced the launch of its second generation Android One smartphone called Spice Dream Uno H for a pricing of Rs 6,499. Alongside the announcement of this smartphone with complete Hindi language support, another partner of Google’s Android One, Karbonn announced that it will be releasing a new variant of the Android One smartphone in the first quarter of 2015.

At an event in New Delhi on Wednesday, the Executive Director of Karbonn Mobiles, Shashin Devsare believes in its potential besides revealing the plans for a new smartphone in Q1 2015. The executive stated that the firm received excellent response on the Karbonn Sparkle V Android One smartphone. He added that they believe that the Android One programme will mature and hence, have partnered with Google for the project to be a long term one.


While launching the Android One program in mid September, Google said that it is an initiative taken to render top notch quality smartphones to a wider base of users. The firm claimed that manufacturers who partner for this initiative will benefit from cost savings in development and by sharing of testing and integration resources with Google.

After launching three smartphones in the first batch, Google partnered with new hardware makers for the Android One program including Alcatel One Touch, Asus, HTC, Intex, Lava, Lenovo, Panasonic, Xolo and Qualcomm. Google added that it is expecting to witness more high quality, affordable devices with varying screen sizes, colors, innards and customized software.

Talking about the new Spice Android One handset, the Dream Uno H except for the complete Hindi language support targeted at the 300 million user base in the country speaking the language, the specifications remain the same as the first batch of Android One devices.
