Earlier this year, Microsoft announced that it has partnered with the India based vendors to launch affordable Windows Phone based smartphones. Following the same, the Micromax, Karbonn, Xolo and Celkon announced their offerings in the sub Rs 10,000 price bracket to lure the first time smartphone upgraders. Now, Lava has also joined this bandwagon with the launch of its Windows Phone 8.1 offering called Iris Win1 that carries a price tag of Rs 4,999.
It has been announced that the Lava Iris Win1 will be exclusively available via the e-commerce portal Flipkart starting from December 4, Thursday. Also, the smartphone will arrive bundled with a free flip cover and a screen guard.
The Lava Iris Win1 is a dual SIM smartphone and it is first one to run on Windows Phone operating system to be launched by the manufacturer. The Iris Win1 is fitted with a 4 inch WVGA IPS display that packs a screen resolution of 480×800 pixels that is pretty standard for all those devices that are available in this price bracket. There are also sensors such as accelerometer, proximity sensor and ambient light sensor.
Powering the Lava smartphone is a quad core Qualcomm Snapdragon of unspecified chipset ticking at 1.2 GHz clock speed. This processor is teamed up with 1 GB of RAM for swift multi-tasking that is expected from the devices in the entry level market segment. Imaging wise, there is a 5 MP primary snapper with auto focus, LED flash and BSI+ sensor to render better photography. At the front, the Iris Win1 is bestowed with a VGA selfie camera that can render basic video conferencing.
The Lava Iris Win1 includes 8 GB of inbuilt storage which can be further expanded up to 32 GB using a micro SD card. The smartphone packs a 1,950 mAh battery, but the backup rendered by this battery is not disclosed by the vendors. It comes with connectivity options such as 3G, Wi-Fi, Bluetooth, GPS and micro USB.
