Back in October, the Chinese manufacturer Oppo made all heads turn towards it will the launch of its current flagship smartphone, Oppo N3 with a swivel camera and Oppo R5, the world’s slimmest smartphone at that point of time with 4.85 mm thickness. However, the latter’s shine did not last for long as a fellow China based smartphone maker, Vivo unveiled the Vivo X5 Play this week surpassing the R5 with its slim profile of 4.75 mm.
Now, Oppo India has announced that it will be launching the R5 in the country sometime this month. The vendor has also confirmed that the smarphone will be hitting the retailer shelves in India in December with a pricing that falls between Rs 25,000 and Rs 30,000. The final price tag of the Oppo R5 will be announced when the device is official launched here.
While we still do not know the specific release date of Oppo R5 in India, Vivo that is the sixth largest smartphone manufacturer in China has already announced that the Vivo X5 Max, the world’s slimmest smartphone will be launched in the country on December 15. Eventually, when Oppo R5 makes its way into India, there will be a tough challenge for the smartphone as an even thinner model would be officially announced by Vivo.
Refreshing on the specifications of the R5, the handset boasts of a 5.2 inch FHD 1080p AMOLED display that translates to a pixel density of 423 pixels per inch. The smartphone makes use of a 64 bit octa core Qualcomm Snapdragon 615 processor paired with 2 GB of RAM and Adreno 405 graphics engine. There is a 13 MP Sony IMX214 primary snapper with LED flash and a 5 MP front facer along for video conferencing.
Oppo has given its slimmest smartphone the firm’s proprietary ColorOS 2.0.1 based on Android 4.4 KitKat. The device features 16 GB of native storage space that cannot be extended further and houses a 2,000 mAh battery to power it from within.
