Samsung Galaxy Note Edge, the curved display smartphone that was launched in India earlier this month is now available for pre-order via the e-commerce portal Amazon India. The retailer is accepting pre-bookings for the device that is priced at Rs 64,900 and the listing notes that the Galaxy Note Edge will be released on January 5, 2015.
The listing of Galaxy Note Edge on Amazon India reads “This item is due to be released on January 5, 2015.” The retailer lists the curved display smartphone in Charcoal Black and Frost White color options.
Unveiled in September at the IFA 2014 tech show, the Samsung Galaxy Note Edge was claimed to be a limited edition model with focus only in select markets. It was also aiming to sell over 1 million units of the Galaxy Note Edge across the global markets in 2014 alone. Notably, the smartphone with Side Display has been made available in over 20 countries including India making it a usual device.
The Galaxy Note Edge makes use of the Samsung’s flexible display technology. While the main screen remains flat like the conventional smartphones and tablets, the right edge extends and curves to reach the back of the device. This Side Display can be used to display information such as weather and time and it can be seen from the side when the phone is laid on a table or any flat surface. Also, the Side Display of the Galaxy Note Edge will provide access to camera functions making it similar to a standalone, point and shoot camera with shutter button and other functions appearing on top when the device is held horizontally.
To refresh on specifications, Samsung Galaxy Note Edge boasts of a 5.6 inch Quad HD+ Super AMOLED display with a resolution of 1600×2560 pixels. Under its hood, there is a quad core 2.7 GHz Qualcomm Snapdragon 805 processor teamed up with Adreno 420 graphics engine and 3 GB of RAM.
The Galaxy Note Edge bundles 32 GB of native storage capacity that can be expanded externally by another 64 GB and includes a 3,000 mAh battery. It is based on Android 4.4 KitKat and comes with a 16 MP primary camera with auto focus and Smart OIS. Also onboard is a 3.7 MP front facing snapper with a f/1.9 lens for wider selfies. Connectivity feature packed by the device are Wi-Fi, GPS, NFC, Bluetooth v4.0, IR LED, USB 2.0, and MHL 3.0.
