There were numerous reports that circulated in the last month suggesting that the first Tizen smartphone will be making its way into India sometime in December. However, they turned false as there was a delay in Samsung’s expected Tizen based Z1 handset shifting the mid-December launch. Now, a new report claims that the Z1 will be launched in India in the next month and it appears to be confirmed as well.
According to a The Korea Economic Daily, a Samsung official has reportedly confirmed that the Z1 handset based on Tizen will be launched on January 18 in India. It is also claimed that the handset will not cost over KRW 100,000 (approx. Rs. 5,700). At this pricing, the Samsung Z1 will be positioned in the entry level smartphone segment and it was revealed that the device will be available via both online and retail through the existing sales network of the South Korean firm.
Additionally, the Samsung Z1 is said to reach China in February and Korea sometime in the first half of 2015. However, Samsung has not provided any official details regarding the smartphone’s availability and launch till date.
In a related report by GSMArena, an anonymous user has revealed a leaked slide showcasing the Samsung Z1 and two screenshots of the Tizen OS. These images show the home screen and the phonebook of the device. Notably, a report that surfaced last month hinted that the Z1 will be running Tizen v2.3 preinstalled.
To refresh on the specifications, the Samsung Z1 is rumored to include a 4 inch WVGA 480×800 TFT LCD display and employ a dual core Spreadtrum SC7727S processor ticking at 1.2 GHz clock speed paired with Mali 400 graphics unit and 512 MB of RAM. It is likely to arrive with dual SIM support and boast of a 3.2 MP rear camera with LED flash and a VGA front facing camera. Connectivity options onboard are likely to include Bluetooth 4.0; GPS, GLONASS, Wi-Fi, and micro USB.
